Biographical Information for Rev. Steve Atkinson

Although I can recall
God attempting to entice me to accept a Call to ministry
in my teens, it wasn’t until much later that I could no
longer resist or ignore God, so beginning the process
towards Ordination for ministry.
I expect similar to many of
your lives, my journey has included many different roads
and taken a great many unplanned detours. Some of the
chapters include sales and sales management, a
renovation business, chaplaincy, full-time study and
finally Ordination. |
It was
while I was further discerning God’s Call to me that I
trained to be a Chaplain at two of Hamilton’s major
hospitals. I had the privilege of serving a wide variety
of patients and their families in the Intensive Care,
Neo-Natal and Women’s Health Units. I say it was a
privilege because any time you are invited into a family
during one of their most vulnerable and hurting times,
to be with them, is an absolute honor. I treasure my
memories of my time as Chaplain.
However I didn’t feel that Chaplaincy was where God was
ultimately calling me. So after further discernment, I
began the process for Ordination. Following my
Ordination, I have had the privilege of serving a
variety of congregations including Teeswater, Gander,
Windsor, Kingsville, Blenheim and now St. John’s, two of
them in an Interim capacity. I am grateful for each and
every congregation that I have served, because each has
taught me valuable lessons that have further enhanced my
ministry.
On a personal note, I have been happily married for
sixteen years, have a son, and celebrate the fact that
my father is still living and thriving at the wonderful
age of 87. My hobbies include reading, building plastic
model trucks, winemaking, entertaining, gardening and
going for walks with a good cigar.
If you haven’t already joined us for one of our
services, I invite you to come out, meet and share
fellowship with us and experience the Spirit of the
Living Christ at St. John’s! I look forward to meeting
you.
Blessings
