Sunday School Picnic 2011
by Karen Turner, Sunday School Coordinator

On Sunday June 12, 2011 we had the "Church Picnic". Traditionally this is held in Heritage Park but on June 12, 2011 the decision was made to move it back to the Church. It was a very cool and blustery day. It didn't rain but rain was threatening. We had a casual service at the church with the Praise Team leading the singing. We sang "He's got the whole world in his hands, Be Still for the Presence, Wind of the Spirit, His Banner over me is Love, We are one in the Spirit, Just a Closer Walk with Thee, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, and closed with I'll Fly Away.

Each child walked "through the gate" at the front of the church signifying the completion of the 2010/2011 Sunday School Year and were presented with a bible from Karen Turner, Sunday School Coordinator. Karen Turner also presented Thank You gifts to each of the Sunday School Teachers, Sarah Parnell, Debbie Langman, Melanie Giffen, Heather Toner and Heather Sneddon. Karen Parnell made a presentation on behalf of the Education Team to Karen Turner, Sunday School Coordinator.

After the service we enjoyed a pot luck buffet downstairs. Following the buffet lunch we had the traditional games for the children. We had sack races, foot races, 3 legged races, tug of war and others. During the 3 legged races several of the children decided that crawling on their hands and knees was actually faster and safer. The tug of war was 3 teenager, Jessica, Rachel and Victoria S against all the smaller children. The teenagers were winning until several Sunday School Teachers decided to assist the smaller children. The teenagers then fell to defeat. As Jessica lay on the floor the children decided this was an opportune moment to have a log pile with Jessica at the bottom. It was decided that the completion of the day would be the water balloon toss which was held in the parking lot. While we were getting ready for the water balloon toss the children started throwing the water balloons. Several ended up on the teachers backs and on the other children. Needless to say it was more of a water balloon bombing with no winner. Next year come join us. It was a very fun day.
